Auto Extract Systems are proud to support Clean Air Day 2018.

What is Clean Air Day?

Clean Air Day’s being hosted on Thursday 21st June 2018. The day is the largest air pollution campaign and has the aim to raise awareness of the health risks air pollution has to millions of people every year. The day informs us about the simple changes we can do to improve air quality. It’s hoped that the day will improve public awareness and understanding of how air pollution affects our health, especially that of young children and people with heart and lung problems.

The Risk of Poor Health Quality

With the average person spending over 90% of their life indoors, poor air quality and high exposure to pollutants can have a negative effect on a person’s health, comfort, and ability at work. This can be down to a number of factors that could include: temperature, humidity or a lack of fresh air (due to poor ventilation).

However, high air pollution levels are regularly found in workplaces too. The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) aim to help businesses control hazardous substances with personal protective equipment (PPE) and local exhaust ventilation (LEV).

Health Risks

Exposure to dust and other pollutants can have a detrimental effect on human health. These can typically be found in a variety of environments, from industrial woodworking, pharmaceutical and automotive workshops (see: workshop extraction) to schools, colleges and military establishments.

According to the latest HSE report: Health and Safety at Work – Summary Statistics For Great Britain 2019 report, there are 12,000 lung disease deaths each year estimated to be linked to past exposures work. Whilst 1.4 million workers are estimated to be suffering from work-related ill-health (new or long-standing illnesses) in 2018/19.

It is within businesses best interests to ensure the working environment remains (where possible) pollutant-free. Pollutant-free workplaces can have positive effects on staff, leading to a more productive workforce and maximize efficiency.
