Full Description
Fume Cabinets
Fume cabinets are suitable for environments where maximum extraction efficiency is required. They are ideal for work with open chemical vessels, setup of chemical apparatus and glueing, for instance, where several sources of contamination are present.
Extraction cabinets are manufactured with a solid and stable aluminium frame and transparent polyethene sheets to allow the operator to see through the cabinet whilst safely controlling exposure, thus not blocking the work area. It is also easy to move when tasks and locations vary.
Fume extraction cabinets are available in two standard sizes: 400mm (with a 96-litre volume capacity) or 700mm (with a 350-litre volume capacity). The extraction cupboards can be used as part of a portable system, for example, a local filter kit or a fully-fledged fixed LEV system that extracts and vents captured fumes to the atmosphere or, depending on the process, through a filtration unit.

What Do the Experts Say?
Fume cabinets are a form of partial enclosure collection booths and protect the surrounding work areas from contaminants from the working process, such as fumes and gases. The University of Birmingham describes the partial enclosure collection booths: "The process is not fully enclosed, and the operator can access the workpiece and process, but the air is pulled into the enclosure to remove fumes and gases."
What Are the Type of Businesses That Need Fume Cabinets?
A fume extraction cupboard is an essential local ventilation system that helps prevent exposure to fumes, dust or vapours while working with hazardous materials such as chemicals. These products are highly versatile and may be needed in various industries. They are designed to allow people to see through the extraction cabinet while working without exposing them to harmful substances. The types of industries that may use a fume extraction cupboard can include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Laboratories
- Schools and colleges
- Hospitals
- Engineering facilities
- Manufacturing plants
- Pharmacies
- Research & development workshops
The Right Fume Extraction Solution for You
Auto Extract Systems offers fume extraction cabinet LEV solutions, which are ideal for working processes where there are open chemical vessels, chemical apparatus is set up or where several sources of contamination are present, for example, in laboratories.
Fume cabinets should be utilised in conjunction with one of our centrifugal fans to vent the captured fumes either directly to the atmosphere or, depending on the working process, whether wet or dry filtration is required, we have a solution for that, either a Wet Collector or a Reverse Pulse Filtration units. The cleaned air can then be returned to the atmosphere via a high-velocity cowl, as per HSG258: Controlling Airborne Contaminants at Work: A Guide to Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV).
