Battery Fume

Prolonged exposure to sulphuric acid fumes is associated with an increased risk of developing laryngeal carinoma. Lead acid batteries are a potential source of these fumes. Effective forms of extraction include enclosed canopies and captor hoods are preferred by the HSE by eliminating employee exposure at source. Extraction fans are available in a number of chemical-resistant materials, including uPVC, fire retardant polypropylene and stainless steel.
